160' Coast Guard Proposal

Tri-motor for economy cruise and high-speed pursuit, Cargo hold for pumps and oil-booms and heavy Tow cable, retrieve on the fly 26' Rigid Raider, workboat tumble-home rails. A simple dual chine single deck hull of heavy steel construction for speeds approaching 30kts and long service life. Dual or tri-motor, two-deck engine room, large deckhouse, vast pilot-house. This Hull utilizes a constant camber topside-plate adding strength and a bit of aesthetic value without adding excessive cost.

Expressly designed for taking a beating coming alongside at sea, Search and Rescue/Assistance, Towing, Fisheries Enforcement, Coastal Security.  This vessel could be fitted with a boom crane on the upper deck, instead of the gaff. this vessel may be built by any moderate to small yard.

Mil-spec designs are based on a philosophy of Peacekeeping and Anti-Piracy

168' Patrol Cat

Diesel or Gas Turbine

Designed for Troop deployment and "eyes on" inspection in the Littoral arena, this is a large stealth-able design with multiple and angled plate protection for crew habitation. Folding Mast allows this ship to fit in most of the Navy's Amphibious ships as a replacement for two LCAC, or as deck cargo, Fuel Bladders in Cargo holds allow self deployment or support ops. Shown here armed with essentially marinized Bradley turrets, gun tubs buried in the deck can accommodate the full variety of standard small-ship's armament. Twin 26' rigid raiders in their own deployment wells, convertible Helipad/ boathouse hatch. This is a production design maximized for variation and easy production construction. This vessel has large cargo-holds, shallow operational but variable draught/Disp, and can operate in (People) Ferry Mode. Variations include a Vehicle landing ship, Anti-Air (shown), Vanilla Troop Carrier, Anti-ship, Interceptor (gas turbine), Helicopter support, and Cargo. Pull three pins to disconnect the boat-hatch and convert to a PGM. Hull design is based on my SeaTruck concept. Aluminum, Composite over Aluminum framing, or Pure composite. Full Tri-bow or Transom-bowed. Quiet pump-jet bow and stern thrusters, 2-way side-port/firing-port hatches, extensive water-tight compartmentation.

The Large Cruiser Concept

Arrangement and Feasibility Study, Plating Study

This concept began the day of the Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut. A 650' Cruiser aimed specifically at the role of Peacekeeping and the safe basing of troops on ship. Predating the Cole, I conceived that this ship would have a double hull, small craft for patrol, air-craft for recon, mission support, and self protection. This ship could, in extremis, land and support a small Combined Arms force of up to two companies in strength, in an Armored Cav configuration, supported by V-22 and HH-60 Air Cav, Harrier, and Cobra, the Ship providing artillery, bombardment and SAM cover. 3" for self protection on the aft deck, the fated MCLWG was to be the main armament, firing laser guided 8" RAP rounds no less, those were the days of high-theory. This was a response to the early discussions in Proceedings over "Forward from the Sea" and Peace-keeping missions in the 80's and 90's. The 750' adds another LCAC, or the big Patrol Cat, or a single LCAC and two 84' Patrol Cats, and a better foredeck layout.

Large Hospital spaces, pre-embarked SEABEE equipment, and large transport capability reflect the thought that in Peace-time the Navy is a primary responder to Natural Disasters and this role is not seen as diminishing. That either Cruiser would make an especially good platform for Spec-Ops operations is a reflection of the role of Naval Spec-Ops in support of the FBI's mandated Anti-Terrorism operations.

A Large Cruiser Concept was re-written but never resubmitted at the suggestion of Proceedings Magazine in 2000, at which point I was working on a 750' with an on-deck hanger capable of the largest helicopters (mine hunters), and a double well for 2 LCAC or my new 160x47 Patrol Cat, or four 84' patrol cats.. And a 900' Jeep Carrier, just a quickie concept for a "low intensity" aircraft carrier.

And for anyone still mucking Fleet Command right click and save as 650' CGN
